TACLOBAN City – Two persons were reported missing from the island village of Tubabao, Oras town, while one was injured by flying debris in Can-avid town, as Typhoon “Ambo” made landfall in San Policarpio, Eastern Samar at 12:15 p.m. Thursday (May 14).

Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone said the whole province has no electricity, while some infrastructure was damaged, particularly in Brgy. Tubabao, Oras, and the municipal gymnasium of Maslog.

Eastern Samar Police director Col. Carlito Abriz said no one was reported hurt during the incident in Maslog, while the extent of damage is still being determined.

Five municipalities — Dolores, Oras, San Policarpio, Arteche, and Jipapad — have no communication lines.

The governor earlier suspended work in both private and public offices in the whole province, except frontliners and emergency team personnel.

All local government units (LGUs) were asked to implement forced evacuations, especially in hazard-prone areas. However, the governor admitted that some families in evacuation centers, particularly in Arteche, Taft, and San Policarpio, are having a hard time observing social distancing.

The Department of Public Works and Highways closed the Taft-Buray Road at 11 a.m. because of the continuous rains brought by the typhoon. The area is prone to landslides and flooding.
