A man, who is reportedly mentally ill, stabbed his wife and two young daughters while they were sleeping at their house at Barangay 145 in Tondo, Manila, Monday (May 11).
The 41-year-old suspect and his 35-year-old wife are both jobless, police said. Their two daughters are aged 8 and 12.
According to a police report, the three victims were already sleeping soundly at around 1:55 a.m. when the suspect hacked them with a hard, large object in a fit of rage.
The suspect’s older sister, who is also living with the family, managed to scream for help from barangay officials, who subdued and arrested the suspect.
She told the police that her brother is under medication for a mental illness that got worse after the enforcement of the enhanced community quarantine.
The victims were first brought to Tondo Medical Center and later transferred to Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
Police said the suspect will be temporarily confined in a psychiatric hospital, with his cousin’s consent, until his family recovers and can give a statement on the incident.
Further investigation is underway.
