Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Diño on Friday reassured that show-cause orders will be issued to the barangay chairpersons who are shown to have been responsible for anomalies in connection with the implementation of the social amelioration program (SAP) of assistance to affected citizens during the quarantine period.

Diño vowed to file cases against the rogue barangay officials before the Office of the Ombudsman.

The case of Vicenta Concordia of Bulacan indicates the travails of poor residents who had been made to expect that “their names will be included in the second wave of cash aid grantees under the SAP.”

Concordia claimed that a certain “rogue barangay official” asked for a share of the P6,500 relief assistance from the government.

In the third district in Quezon City, a senior citizen who declined to be identified complained that some barangay staff members, as well as the children and in-laws of the incumbent barangay officials received cash assistance under the SAP.

He also expressed doubt that all the cases against the rogue barangay officials will prosper given the thousands of SAP related complaints handled by the DILG.

Despite his skepticism, the senior citizen urged Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and the DILG to make sure that the “mandarambong (rogue)’’ barangay officials are put behind bars.
