PRO-7 to look into anomalies in distribution of SAP benefits

CEBU CITY — The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) will launch an extensive investigation into reports of irregularities in the distribution of the Special Amelioration Program (SAP).

Police Brig. Gen. Abert Ignatius Ferro, chief of the PRO 7, has ordered the region’s various investigation units to monitor erring village officials.

“Our investigation units will help us in the extensive investigation. I have directed them to be vigilant in monitoring public officials involved in corruption especially in the distribution of financial assistance,” said Ferro.

Ferro said no less than President Duterte asked the Philippine National Police to (PNP) monitor possible irregularities in the distribution of SAP.

“They have to ensure that needed assistance will reach the poorest of the poor so that when we tell them to say stay at home, they can sustain. We have been told by the President that corruption especially in this time is a mortal sin,” Ferro said.

Ferro urged public officials to shun corruption and find ways to help the less fortunate to cushion the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“I am appealing to our officials, please be compassionate and be kind to your constituents. Provide them with their essential needs. Do not pocket the support that is supposed to be given to them. It is in this time that we should be very sincere and help the poor instead of adding to their burdens,” said Ferro.
