Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) – Negros Occidental, said that Joart Sefil, 37, of San Joaquin, Iloilo province, was washed ashore in the town due to bad weather.

Benjamin said that Sefil, on board his motorized boat, left his hometown early Sunday to go fishing but drifted to waters off Caliling due to heavy rains.

The incident was reported to the PCG-Negros Occidental, which immediately coordinated with the local health authorities in compliance with the guidelines of the Department of Health (DOH).

Sefil sailed back home the following day, after he was cleared in his medical tests.

Benjamin said that fishermen are allowed to go fishing for as long as it was legal amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID)-19 pandemic.
