Davao Occidental suffers 1st COVID-19 death

DAVAO CITY — The first patient positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Davao Occidental has died.

The Department of Health in Region 11 (DOH-11) bared the patient was a 65-year-old woman from the town of Malita.

Record said the symptoms of the patient started to manifest themselves last March 16, and she died last Monday, May 4.

The DOH 11 said the infection exposure of the victim was still to be investigated since the provincial government bared that she had no travel history.

The Davao Occidental Provincial Health Office (PHO) has already conducted tracing operation to the people who may have had close contact with the patient.

Meanwhile, DOH 11 also disclosed Tuesday that it confirmed that two infants in Davao City were also found infected with the coronavirus.

DOH said the infants were both girls from Bunawan District, and were six days and four months old.

The symptoms of the four-month-old girl started last April 27 while the case of the six-day-old was not stated.

The babies are currently admitted at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

Authorities have been urging the public to follow the health protocols during the ECQ, such as maintaining social distancing, and staying in their respective homes to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
