ILOILO CITY – The death toll in the Western Visayas region because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has risen to 10.

This, after Dr. May Ann Soliva- Sta. Lucia, regional head of the Health Promotion Unit of the Department of Health, said the region’s 10th casualty was a 40-year-old man from Bacolod City.

The man. who was said to have already covered from COVID-19, died of “cardiogenic shock secondary to fatal arrhythmia” last May 2.

“It is a COVID-19 related death,” Sta. Lucia said in an online press conference.

DOH’s May 4 regional case bulletin also listed the man, identified as Western Visayas’ 7th COVID-19 case, as the latest casualty.

But DOH’s take was different from the COVID-19 task force of Bacolod City, which said the person was not considered as a COVID-19 fatality.

Bacolod health officials considered him to have fully recovered after testing negative for COVID-19 twice.

The man is the son of a woman who had also died from COVID-19.
