A female detained at Kamuning Police Station of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) over illegal drugs has tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), police bared on Friday.

The QCPD, in a statement, said the woman inmate was discovered afflicted with the dreaded disease after the result of her swab test, taken before she gave birth at a hospital on April 18, came out on April 25.

The patient has been in detention since March 10.

Lt. Johanna Sazon, QCPD public information office chief, said police have no idea how the inmate got infected by the virus.

“Wala po siyang symptoms. Di po namin alam kung saan niya nakuha ang virus (She had no symptoms. We don’t know where she got the virus),” she said when asked if she showed symptoms while she was still in jail.

Kamuning Police Station Commander Lt. Col. Lucio Simangan Jr. said he immediately requested for a separate room at the station for the patient.

A Quick Response Team is currently monitoring her condition while waiting for the inmate’s transfer to a quarantine facility, police said.
