The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has temporarily relieved a police officer from his post after he allegedly hit a boy with a stick, after catching the boy outside his house amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
ECQ rules prohibit children from stepping outside their homes.
Corporal Albert Aquino of Batasan Police Station is currently out of his assignment pending investigation of the complaint against him, as ordered by District Director Brig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo, a statement from the QCPD on May 1, Friday, said.
This came after a confrontation between Aquino and the boy’s mother was caught on video and made the rounds online on April 28.
The boy’s mother bewailed why the police hit his son, 13, with a baton stick, leaving a mark on the victim’s back, when he saw the boy outside their house in Barangay Old Balara while the whole of Luzon was under ECQ.
Aquino, on the other hand, denied the allegations and said through a police report that the boy “could have slipped and hurt his back” when he and his playmates saw the law enforcers approaching them while doing foot patrol in the area.
The QCPD said that Aquino “was placed under the Administrative Holding Section of Police Station 6 pending investigation.”
