Senator Grace Poe, on Thursday, April 30, appealed for immediate and continuous support for workers who are displaced by the COVID-19 outbreak.
In her Labor Day statement, Poe paid tribute to the “courageous and steadfast” Filipino workers in the frontlines, as well as those who work from their homes, amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“We seek continuous and urgent support for the thousands of workers who have been displaced or are in the throes of losing their livelihood,” Poe said. “We must not let them fall into despair. Our workers are our greatest resources,” she added.
Poe pointed out that such workers “provide the critical lifeline to the economy” as the country grapples with the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
“As we tiptoe into a changed landscape after weeks in lockdown, our workers will be the cure in reviving the nation’s economic engine towards a new, better society,” she said.
President Duterte recently approved the recommendation to ease the quarantine measures for areas of the country that are low risk for COVID-19 outbreak.
These areas will be placed under a general community quarantine, wherein essential businesses and public transport will be allowed to operate at a reduced capacity, while complying with health protocols.
For Metro Manila and other high-risk areas, the enhanced community quarantine is extended until May 15.
