Investigation showed that the fire originated at the second floor of a residential building at Barangay 89 in Tondo District 1.

The blaze reached first alarm at 6:38 a.m. and was put out at 7:52 a.m.

Firmalino said the casualties could have been sleeping when the fire broke out.

The fire investigator said they are eyeing a faulty electric cable as a possible cause of the blaze.

The BFP-Manila said some 20 families were rendered homeless in the fire while eight buildings were affected.

Fire investigators pegged the estimated worth of property losses at around P150,000.

According to the Manila Public Information Office (PIO), the affected families were temporarily sheltered at the Barangay 91 covered court.
They will be allowed to stay there as a hard lockdown is enforced in the entire Tondo District 1 from Sunday, May 3 to Tuesday, May 5.
The city government will provide them with hot meals, as well as relief goods consisting of rice and canned goods, the Manila PIO said.

Further investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
