6 dead in Tondo fire

At least six people died while two others were injured in a fire that hit a residential area in Tondo, Manila Thursday morning.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Manila identified the fatalities as Nathalie Nicole Sorbito, 17; Shane Bernadette Sorbito, 16; Elizabeth Mendoza, 48; Janet Rosales, 49; Eugenio Pacia, 48; and Remedios Pacia, 70.
Fire Inspector Guillermo Firmalino, BFP-Manila investigation chief, said the fire originated at the second floor of a residential building at Barangay 89 in Tondo District 1 that the fatalities were renting.

The blaze reached first alarm at 6:38 a.m. and was put out at 7:52 a.m.
Firmalino said the casualties could have been sleeping when the fire broke out.
The fire investigator said they are eyeing a faulty electric cable as a possible cause of the blaze.
The BFP-Manila said some 20 families were rendered homeless in the fire while eight buildings were affected.
Fire investigators pegged the estimated worth of property losses at around P150,000.
Further investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
