In a statement, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said the rice donation from the Republic of Korea (ROK) would benefit the 15,000 quake victims in North Cotabato, Davao del Sur, the entire Davao region and Soccsksargen.

DA also said it will also be shared to 8,750 families stricken by floods due to typhoon ‘Quiel’ in Cagayan Valley in Luzon in 2019.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar thanked to South Korean President Moon Jae-in and assured that many Filipinos would benefit from the donation.

The DA will turn over the rice to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, which is assigned to distribute it to the beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, South Korean Ambassador Han Dong-man, citing the strong bond between the Philippines and South Korea, said he hopes the donation will help meet the basic needs of Filipinos.

The ROK rice donation arrived last March at the ports of General Santos City and Manila.
