In a statement released on Monday (April 27) afternoon, PLM said Los Baños taught at the university for 13 years and served as the chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the PLM College of Medicine.

He was also a consultant psychiatrist at Healthway Medical, Tahanan Natin, and Grace Halfway Home.

The PLM College of Medicine said the doctor was one of their “beloved educators” who taught their lessons with a “distinct flair.”

“Known to many simply as Doc Joge, he will always be remembered for handling our classes in Psychiatry with a distinct flair,” its statement read.

“The lessons we learned and laughter we shared in your class will be deeply cherished. Our Thursdays will never be the same again,” it added.

Los Baños’ cause of death was not indicated.

He is the fourth doctor from the PLM community to have passed during the COVID-19 crisis in the country.

Dr. Israel Bactol, a cardiologist and doctor to the barrios, was the first doctor in the country to die due to COVID-19 on March 21.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nicko Bautista was among the passengers of the Lion Air medical evacuation flight that caught fire at the Ninoy Aquino Internal Airport (NAIA) on March 29.

On April 15, Dr. Maria Teresa Ballat Dajao, Medical Officer IV and physician-in-charge of Kahilum Health Center of the Manila Health Department, died when she was hit by a truck while she was biking on her way home.
