27 SAP, 4Ps beneficiaries nabbed for illegal gambling in Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY - A total of 27 beneficiaries of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) were arrested in separate operations for allegedly engaging in illegal gambling here and in Negros Occidental from April 23 to 26.

On April 26, four persons, including two SAP beneficiaries, were arrested in Barangay Sum-ag here after they were allegedly caught playing an illegal card game locally known as "Pusoy Orig".

Police recovered from them a set playing card, and P78 bet money. The two SAP beneficiaries, according to the police, just received their SAP allowances from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) last Saturday.

SAP allowances of P6,000 each were provided by the national government as financial aid to qualified families affected by the ongoing crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On April 25, five individuals, including two other SAP beneficiaries, were arrested at Barangay General Malvar, Pontevedra town for allegedly engaging in illegal cockfighting. Police confiscated from them were four fighting cocks, and P1,170 bet money.

In Sipalay City, three persons, including a SAP beneficiary, and two 4Ps beneficiaries, were arrested at Barangay Nauhang last Saturday, for allegedly playing an illegal card game locally known as "Tong-its." Police seized from them a set of playing cards, table, cloth, and P300 bet money.

In Talisay City, four SAP beneficiaries were arrested at Barangay Bubog on the same day, after they were caught allegedly playing "Pusoy." Authorities confiscated from them a set of playing cards, 52 gambling paraphernalia, and P794 bet money.

In Murcia town, four persons, including one SAP beneficiary, were collared for the same violation at Barangay Cansilayan that day. Confiscated from them by the authorities were a set of playing card, and P100 bet money.

On April 24, eight persons, including five SAP beneficiaries, and three 4Ps beneficiaries were apprehended by personnel of Police Station 4 at Barangay Estefania here, for allegedly playing Tong-its and Pusoy, with the confiscation of two sets of playing cards, and P1,585 bet money.

On April 23, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Bacolod has arrested four individuals, including two SAP beneficiaries and one 4Ps beneficiary, after they were caught allegedly playing “Pares-Pares” at Zone II, Purok Pine Tree, Barangay Bata here.

Chief Master Sgt. Ramiro Gocotano, officer-in-charge of CIDG-Bacolod, said they received reports from concerned citizens about an alleged gambling area reportedly maintained by a 67-year-old woman. He said that two of them received their SAP allowances the other day.

Police recovered from them two decks of playing cards and P493 cash.

Also arrested by personnel of Police Station 9 that day at Barangay Punta Taytay were three SAP beneficiaries and a 4Ps beneficiary for allegedly playing “Pusoy Orig.” Police confiscated from them a set of playing cards and P170 cash.

In Victorias City, two SAP beneficiaries and a 4Ps beneficiary were collared on the same day at Barangay 6-A for allegedly playing “Tong-its.” Police seized from them a wooden table, a set of playing cards, and P250 cash.
