QC adds 5 new COVID-19 cases; total now 1,072

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Quezon City (QC) continued to rise as it rose to 1,072 from the previous 1,067 as of 7 p.m. of April 22, based on Department of Health (DOH) statistics.

Similar to the previous tallies, the DOH record differed from that of the number of validated cases reported by the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QCESU) and District Health Offices which stood at 763 up by 35 from the previous 728.

In the similar time frame, the Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) reported 913 cases with complete addresses in Quezon City.

The same OCHD report revealed that the number of active COVID-19 cases in the locality — referring to those still alive and have not fully recovered — rose slightly from 530 to 550.

COVID-19 deaths and recoveries in QC

As of 7 p.m. of April 22, QCHD reported three new deaths, raising the number to 101, while nine new recoveries brought the tally to 112.

Extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ)

Mayor Joy Belmonte said the city government implements the EECQ in barangays with two or more confirmed COVID-19 cases and in various streets and/or in congested urban poor areas where fast transmission is most likely to occur.

However, Belmonte said this will still be subjected to daily review depending on the number of cases/recoveries.

She noted the newly reported barangays with two cases have not yet been included in the list as they are still undergoing validation.

As of 7 p.m. of April 22, the Quezon City government has implemented EECQ in the following barangays:

Tandang Sora, Kalusugan, Ramon Magsaysay, Maharlika, Tatalon, Batasan Hills, Pasong Tamo, Central, San Roque, Paligsahan, Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, South Triangle, Culiat, Bahay Toro, E. Rodriguez, San Isidro Labrador, Matandang Balara, Teachers Village West, Manresa, Paltok, Sto. Domingo, Bagong Silangan, Holy Spirit, Payatas, Marilag, Socorro, Kamuning, Pinyahan, San Isidro Galas, Commonwealth, Pansol, North Fairview, Novaliches Proper, and New Era.

Hope 1 facility

As of April 22, Hope 1 quarantine facility has three available rooms for confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients. At present, 38 confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients are confined in the facility.

Hope 2 facility

On April 22, 94 rooms were added to Hope 2, bringing the total to 309. Currently, confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients have occupied 128 rooms of the facility. Those who have been tested in QC’s community-based testing are brought in Hope 2 for self-isolation while waiting for their results.

Quezon City community-based testing

On April 22, a total of 177 swab tests were conducted in the city’s community-based testing centers, local government hospitals, and by the QCESU.

Of the 177 tests, 33 were done in Quezon City General Hospital, 31 in Novaliches District Hospital, 11 in Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital, 32 at the Quezon Memorial Circle, 15 in SB Park Novaliches, 23 at the Asian Institute of Tourism, 4 at the Old Balara Covered Court, and 28 by the QCESU.

Quarantine violators

As of 5 p.m. of April 22, 97 residents were apprehended for violating the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) protocols.

Belmonte appealed to the public to stay at home and heed the government’s quarantine regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Social Amelioration Program

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), assisted by the city government, has started the distribution of financial support to qualified beneficiaries through the social amelioration program.
