The second biggest barangay in Pasay City has been placed under total lockdown as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) were requested to help implement the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
“Hindi na kaya ng mga tanod namin na i-cover ang buong barangay at i-implement and enhanced community quarantine. Meron kaming 28,000 residents (Our village watchmen can no longer cover the whole barangay and implement the enhanced community quarantine. We have 28,000 residents),” said Barangay 201 chairman James Bontilao.
He said he requested for such augmentation from Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano and the AFP who deployed more than 60 personnel to the area. According to the Pasay Public Information Office, soldiers were deployed in the area on Tuesday.
Bontilao said they are also relaxing their window hours based on the instruction of Calixto-Rubiano to allow more people to go to markets or drugstores.
He said they will only allow those who wear face masks and have quarantine passes to go out and buy basic goods and necessities.
“Ipapahuli namin ang lalabag sa batas (We will apprehend those who violate the law),” Bontilao said.
According to Bontilao, the total lockdown in Barangay 201 will remain effective until April 30, 2020 unless President Duterte opts to extend the enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region.
Earlier, Barangay 178 in Pasay also requested for soldiers to help implement the enhanced community quarantine. Both barangays 201 and 178 only have three reported cases of COVID-19 based on Tuesday’s tabulation of the City Health Office.
