Killed were driver Michael Castillo, and helper Nico Along, 18, both residents of Hinoba-an town.

Maj. John Ganzon, town police chief, said Castillo was driving his truck loaded with boxes of fish, when the rear right wheel exploded, causing the vehicle to swerve to the opposite lane, and crashing into the hauler being driven by Jesmilo Godinez, 48, of Ilog town.

“He (Castillo) lost control over the vehicle due to a mechanical trouble which caused the collision,” Ganzon added.

He said the truck was on its way to Kabankalan City from Hinoba-an town, while the hauler was on its way to Cauayan town.

Ganzon said Castillo and Along died on the spot. It took 30 minutes for the rescuers to retrieve their bodies that was pinned down inside the vehicle due to the strong impact.

Ganzon said Godinez was unharmed, and was brought to the police station for investigation and will be released after the 18-hour reglementary detention.
