Impressive private-sector assistance noted by Pernia

Former socio-economic planning secretary Ernesto Pernia tipped his hat off to the private sector’s efforts to help government in its fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“The philantrophy has been rather impressive,” Pernia said in an interview Saturday over ANC, hosted by Cathy Yang.

Pernia praised the companies who have been doing their part by giving donations for the purchase of food and hospital equipment for those in need of them.

He explained that the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act entails that the whole of society should work as one.

“But before you can heal as one, you have to act as one,” Pernia said.

The former Cabinet secretary said that he is a firm believer of the private sector’s big role in economic growth.

He explained that the private sector is the “engine that drives the economy while government “provides the favorable environment that would encourage businesses to thrive.”

Pernia said that with the private sector pitching in, he believes that there should have been “better coordination”.

It can be recalled that Pernia resigned a few days ago, while the country is in the midst of dealing with the pandemic.
