The University of the Philippines (UP) College of Nursing mourned the passing of Faye Marie Luna Palafox, a Class of 1995 alumna. She was 46.

It was not yet clear what caused her death.

In its statement released Friday, the UP College of Nursing said Palafox spent her last days as a safety officer, making sure her fellow nurses were properly wearing their personal protective equipment (PPEs).

She started as a staff nurse at the hospital in 1996 and later became head nurse of 5RCB1.

“Ms. Palafox has lived the true essence of IskoNars para sa Bayan,” the UP College of Nursing’s statement read.

“While we mourn her passing, we continue to celebrate her life characterized by unwavering dedication and commitment to serve the Filipino people beyond the call of duty,” it added.

On Friday, the Department of Health reported that 766 health workers have contracted COVID-19.

The Philippines now has 5,878 confirmed cases with 387 deaths and 487 recovered patients, the health department also said.
