Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año warned on Friday that more arrests will be made against quarantine violators in the remaining days of the lockdown.
In an interview with DZMM, Año said the government will be stricter in implementing the enhanced community quarantine as ordered by President Duterte.
“Yung mga pasaway…nag-gagambling, naglabas na ng kautusan si [Philippine National Police Chief] Gen. [Archie] Gamboa kagabi na pa-iigtingin ang laban diyan,” Año said.
“Sigurado marami tayong aarestuhin,” he added.
Año also called on local government units to review executive orders and other ordinances regarding penalties which can be imposed on people found violating quarantine measures such as social standing, wearing of facemasks, and going outside their homes without passes.
“Dapat meron yang pentalty magmulta o kaya makulong para di uulit yung mga pasaway,” he said.
When asked if it is necessary for a military takeover in the last few days of the ECQ as President Duterte earlier suggested, Año said: “Possible yan.”
“Kapag dumating ‘yung pagkakataon talaga na katulad nung isang araw na nagdagsaan yung tao dito sa Balintawak Market talagang drastically mag- lalagay tayo ng sundalo at pulis diyan para ipatupad yung social distancing,” he said.
Earlier, President Duterte warned the public that the military and the police will take over in enforcing quarantine measures if more violations continue.
“I am just asking for your disiplina, konti. Kasi pag ayaw ninyo, ayaw ninyong maniwala, mag-take over ang military pati ang pulis,” Duterte said in a briefing Thursday.
