Online marketplace Lazada Philippines on Thursday said sales of essential goods and hygiene items have spiked by up to 15 times since the Luzon-wide lockdown.

"We focused on the essential needs for Filipinos during this time. Our last mark business actually continued the entire quarantine period and we've seen a 15x increase in essential goods," Lazada PH CEO Ray Alimurung said in an interview with ANC.

He said that essential goods in high demand include food, disinfectants, cleaning agents, medical supplies and other personal hygiene items.

Alimurung said the company did suspend briefly after the quarantine was announced but started operating again.

He also assured that the company is observing strict hygiene measures to ensure the well-being and safety of their employees.

Strict measures include regular disinfection of its warehouse centers, hygiene practices such as wearing masks and disinfecting, and regular temperature checks, he added.

Lazada also encourage the use of non-cash-on-delivery payments.
