The President’s Advisory Council (PAC) of the University of the Philippines (UP) has recommended a shortened second semester and a “deferred grade” for students in the wake of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The council, composed of the UP System executive committee and the chancellors of constituent universities, submitted the proposal to the UP Board of Regents on Tuesday.

“The University shall end the second semester on April 30, 2020 to reduce the growing anxiety of students and faculty on one hand, and enable their COVID-related engagements on the other hand,” the letter said.

Since there will be no sufficient basis to assess the students, they will be given a “deferred grade,” which means that none of the students will fail the course provided they meet the requirements.

Should the student be unable to complete the course requirements, they have the option to drop and re-enroll the course in the succeeding semester.
