Private vehicles parked and moving along EDSA increased amid the lockdown of the entire Luzon to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Tuesday.

In a report on DZMM Teleradyo, MMDA Special Traffic and Transport Zone chief Bong Nebrija, said that the agency has already added personnel in Cubao and Quezon City to apprehend vehicles parked on the road as well as in emergency bays.

He added that traffic enforcers will also accost tricycles and motorcycles accompanied with two or more persons.

The Department of Transportation earlier issued guidelines for private vehicles, limiting the number of passengers, and prohibiting backriding for privately-owned motorcycles amid the rising number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country.

The entire Luzon was placed under an enhanced community quarantine last March 16.
