Farmer arrested for trying to hack brgy chair at COVID-19 assistance desk

TACLOBAN City – A farmer was arrested for assaulting barangay chairperson who was manning a barangay assistance desk for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Barangay Sugponon, Basey, Samar.

The suspect was identified as Narciso Badajos, 57 years old, married, farmer, and a resident of Barangay Sugponon.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim Joel Badajos, together with the councilors, barangay tanods, and barangay health workers, were at their post when the suspect arrived, wielding a long-bladed weapon locally known as “Sundang”, and attempted to hack the victim.

The suspected was pacified by the officials and went home, while the victim reported to Basey Municipal Police Station for police assistance.

The responding units of Basey police and personnel of the 805th Regional Mobile Force Batallion Maneuvering Company arrested the suspect after he was positively identified by the victim.

The suspect was brought to Basey MPS for proper documentation. He will be charged for attempted murder and direct assault of a person in authority.
