The Department of Health (DOH) is doing what it can in responding to the COVID-19 health crisis despite the challenges and constraints.

‘’Nevertheless, we should not be complacent until this crisis is resolved,’’ Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘’Bong’’ Go said in reply to a query that the DOH is restricting the reporting of deaths at hospitals and that reporting of deaths should be mandatory and transparent.

The DOH had denied such report that it wants to keep the death tally away from the public.

Go, chairman of the Senate health and demography committee, stressed. (The President made sure that we have the funds now that we are facing the COVID-19 outbreak. Hopefully, there should be solutions to avoid the further spread of COVID-19).

On a query that it was only recently that the DOH issued an advisory that misting and spraying being done by local government units are not effective, Go replied: ‘’Sana masabihan ng DOH ang mga LGUs kung ano mga epektibong alternatibo pa na maaaring gawin at doon na lang gamitin ang kanilang mga pondo.’’ (The DOH should tell the LGUs to use alternative schemes, using their own funds.)

(LGUs must make sure that hospitals in far-flung areas must have the capacity to resolve their health problems. That was the reason why I appealed for a one-time ‘’Bayanihan’’ financial assistance to LGUs.)

Go emphasized that the DOH should not only be transparent in the number of COVID-19 cases or deaths but on other cases that the public is entitled to know.

(All processes must be clear and the people are well informed. They should know where to go, what hospital to go and measures to fight the virus.)

(The DOH should state what it needs so that the government would know how to respond. To help government contain the outbreak, fake news must be avoided.

(During the current crisis, there should be no finger-pointing. What is needed today is unity. We should help one another. We have no other objective but to improve services to help our countrymen.)
