Police officer shot dead in Cauayan City

A police lieutenant was shot and killed right in front of his residence by an unidentified man wearing a bonnet at around 12 noon Sunday in Cauayan City, Isabela province.

Cauayan Chief of Police Lt. Col. Edgardo Gamboa identified the victim as P/Lt. Oliver Tolentino, 37, who was assigned to Police Regional Office 2 of the Cauayan Police Office.

According to a police report, Tolentino was talking to his sister, Sunday, when he was gunned down in front of his house in Barangay Cabaruan.

He sustained bullet wounds in different parts of his body.

The assailant immediately fled after the incident, while victim was rushed by the responding members of Cauayan City’s Rescue 922 to the Dr. Ester Garcia Medical Center where he was declared dead on-arrival by the attending physician.

Hot pursuit and dragnet operation were still ongoing for the possible identification and arrest of the suspect.
