VIRAC, Catanduanes – The Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) of Masbate City (SP) is seeking the exemption of the whole province of Masbate from the coverage of the extended enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from April 14 to April 30.
In a resolution approved in its 38th regular session, the SP requested President Duterte, through the Bicol Inter-Agency task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (BIATF-EID) and the National Inter-Agency task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (NIATF-EID), to spare the province from the ECQ being implemented by the national government since March 16 as a measure to combat the spread of the deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Citing the provisions of the ECQ, the resolution stated that there has been zero incidence of COVID-19-related cases in the province, be it deaths, persons under monitoring (PUMs), or patients under investigation (PUI)s.
The resolution seeks to re-start daily business operations and the livelihood of the residents in the province that will allow them to recover from the COVID-19 crisis at the soonest possible time.
The council said it was also way to contribute to easing burden of the national government.
But the resolution clearly stated that Masbate will continue to enforce the guidelines set by the AITF-EID, particularly the ban on travelers entering its islands to ensure that any transmission of the disease would be prevented.
