ACT-CIS Party-List Rep. Eric Go Yap is taking his role as caretaker of the legislative district of Benguet seriously, especially in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yap bared in a statement Friday that his party-list has donated P2.5 million worth to much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essential needs of the health workers in Benguet General Hospital (BeGH).

Yap, who chairs the committee on appropriations in the House of Representatives, said ACT-CIS also plans to provide 500 sacks of rice to the province on a fortnightly basis.

The initial delivery of the sacks of rice weighing 50 kilograms each was made earlier this week. It was distributed to the 13 municipalities of Benguet.

“Target natin na makapagbigay ng 500 sacks of rice every other week para siguraduhin na walang taga-Benguet na magugutom. Nakikipag-ugnayan pa tayo sa iba’t-ibang stakeholders kung paano pa tayo makakatulong sa ating mga kababayan,” he said.

(Out target is to donate 500 sacks of rice every other week to ensure that no Benguet resident goes hungry. We have already coordinated with different stakeholders to determine other ways that we can help the constituency.)

To help reduce the impact of the current crisis on the farmers, the solon also bought the vegetable produce of Benguet farmers, which will be distributed as relief to families in need.

“Binili rin natin ang kanilang binibentang gulay sa tamang halaga…Dahil sa community quarantine, naging limitado ang pagbebentahan nila ng gulay. Hangad natin na maging self-sustaining pa rin sila sa kabila ng krisis.”

(We bought their vegetables at the price…because of the community quarantine, selling opportunities are limited. We want them to still be self-sustaining in spite of the crisis.)

“Sa ating buong kapasidad, tutulong at tutulong tayo…Bayanihan ang sagot para malagpasan natin ang krisis na ito (We will help at our full capacity…unity is the answer to this crisis),” Yap said.

Yap was designated as legislative caretaker of Benguet following the death of Rep. Nestor Fongwan last December.
