Gov’t to pay COVID bills; Lockdown till April 30

President Duterte has assured COVID-19 patients that the government will shoulder their hospitalization and medical expenses.

Just try to recover. You won’t die of hospital bills, he assured.

The President also extended the Luzon lockdown till April 30 to prevent a wild spread of the coronavirus.
Better safe than sorry, he appealed for patience.

The President said that all Fiipinos are now covered by Philhealth.
Thanks to the Universal Health Care Law.

“But the funds are not unlimited so we have to exercise due prudenc,” said Philhealth President Ricardo Morales.
Morales explained that Philhealth will pay the hospital spending of all COVID-19 patients at cost until April 14.

“Up to April 14, Philhealth will shoulder hospital expenses. Patients don’t have to pay,” Morales said. “Philhealth will shoulder it. We will call the hospital and tell them they will get paid),” he assured.

However, after April 14, Morales said, Philihealth will only provide cash assistance to patients, depending on the case rates or severity of the condition of the patient.

He said the rates are: mild pneumonia, ₱43,997; moderate pneumonia, ₱143,267; severe pneumonia, ₱333,519; and critical pneumonia, ₱786,384.

Morales explained that Philhealth has allotted ₱30 billion for COVID-19 patients and has, so far, spent around ₱6 billion So far, the highest that was spent on a COVID-19 patient was ₱3.2 million, he said.

“Around 5,000 health facilities are covered by this ₱30 billion,” he said.
Advisories informing hospitals about the health coverag have been circulated.

Philhealth is working closely with banks for the immediate release of the payments, he added.
It is currently paying for all the hospitalization and treatment costs incurred by patients who contracted SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes acute respiratory disease.

The President said earlier that PhilHealth benefits for COVID-19 cases would cover medical expenses ranging from ₱8,150 for testing to ₱786,834 for critical cases of pneumonia.

“PhilHealth shall pay for all COVID-19 tests conducted outside hospitals or in nonhospital facilities… provided that the facilities are accredited by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine,” he said.

He added that the coverage of the benefit packages both for COVID-19-related pneumonia and community isolation will be observed until adjusted.

The President added he approved a two-week extension of the Luzon lockdown based on the recommendation
of the Inter-agency Task Force.

Filipinos must be saved from the spread.of Covid-19, he said.

The President added that aside from assistance for the poor, help for the middle class and small businessmen,
are being considered.
