Authorities on Tuesday seized more than P1 million worth of overpriced alcohol and arrested a beautician behind it during an entrapment operation in Manila.
Police arrested Merlita Toong, 47, a beautician at Must Have Beauty Parlor in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Members of Quezon City Police District and the Philippine Air Force led the buy bust after receiving an information from a concerned citizen that Toong was allegedly selling alcohol, face masks, and safety googles beyond the suggested retail price.
A gallon of alcohol was priced at P690 each, instead of the P520 suggested retail price, the informant told the police.
A poseur buyer met with Toong on Buenavidez St. in Santa Cruz at around 2:30 p.m. and agreed to buy 50 gallons of Isopropyl Alcohol, 20 boxes of disposable face masks, and safety goggles worth P126,600. Toong was arrested during the buy-bust.
Police also confiscated 40 gallons and 96 liters of alcohol, 15,000 pieces of disposable face masks, and 50 pieces of safety googles worth about P1,266,700.
Toong was brought to the Quezon City Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit where she will be slapped with the corresponding charges on overpricing amid Luzon’s enhanced community quarantine.
