Google Philippine donated up to $5 million worth of search ads credit that the government could use to disseminate critical information about COVID-19.

The search engine said that campaigns for the Department of Health and the Presidential Communications Operations Office are already running in Google.

Yves Gonzalez, Google Philippine head of Government Affairs and Public Policy, noted that state agencies can use the credits to promote campaigns such as donations and volunteerism.

“Magagamit po iyan ng mga Philippine government agencies upang mailabas po yung mga kritikal na impormasyon nila tungkol sa COVID-19 pati na rin po yung ating economic recovery measures (government agencies can use this to get out critical information about COVID-19 as well as economic recovery measures),” said Atty. Yves Gonzales, head of Google Philippines’ government affairs and public policy, during an interview over PTV on Tuesday, April 7.

Gonzales added that in the coming weeks, the search engine will run the campaigns of Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Information and Communications Technology, and National Economic and Development Authority as agencies begin their information dissemination.

Gonzales emphasized that the initiative will help the government deliver important messages to the Filipinos who are using the search engine.

“So ito po ay isang paraan ng Google upang magamit po ang big data upang makatulong po sa gobyerno na maintindihan po kung ano po ang galaw ng taong bayan during this period po (This is a way for Google to help the government use big data in determining the movement of the public during this period),” he explained.

Also, Gonazales said Google Maps can now be used to find the 19 shuttle routes prepared by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to help ferry health workers to hospitals.

He added Google Maps and the Google Search Engine can now also be used to find where are the 10 stage five COVID-19 testing centers are located in the country.
