ALABEL, SARANGANI – The provincial government has converted the drug rehabilitation center here into an isolation facility for patients suspected of having coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Provincial Administrator Gerald Faciol said renovation for the 150-bed capacity drug rehabilitation center of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) here was under way while protocols in the admission of COVID-patients under investigation (PUIs) are now being mulled by the provincial health office.
The P350-million regional drug rehab facility was constructed by the Chinese government in 2018 in Barangay Kawas, Alabel.
The provincial government opted to utilize the drug rehab center which remains non-operational into a COVID-19 isolation facility for PUIs in the province which numbers at 26 at the moment.
Provincial Health Officer Arvin Alejandro said a disinfection facility will also be set up at the drug rehab facility as one of safety protocols in accommodating COVID-19 patients.
He added that isolation barriers will be established for each bed to prevent infection among patients.
He said the provincial health care facility inside the provincial capitol compound here was also being eyed as COVID-19 facility that can accommodate 30 patients.
Should there be an increase in the number of persons under monitoring PUMs and PUIs, Alejandro said the provincial health office was considering the establishment of barangay and municipal isolation centers for patients who show mild symptoms.
