“Mamatay kami hindi sa sakit, kundi sa gutom.”
(We’re going to die not because of an illness, but because of hunger.)
This was the concern aired by a female resident in Sitio Lucban, Candido Ramos Drive, Golden Acres Subdivision in Barangay Talon Uno, Las Pinas City.
According to residents interviewed by DZMM radio, the last time they received a relief pack was on March 23, and they were only given two kilos of rice..
Residents said their barangay was “skipped” the last time local officials made rounds to distribute relief packs.
“Nagkakagulo po ang mga tao dito sa ginagawa nila, na pinipili lang [ang bibigyan],” another female resident said.
(The barangay officials are causing a turmoil here because they are just choosing whom to give relief packs.)
Barangay officer Apolonio Sarte told DZMM that the barangay was not given its share of relief packs because their “purok leader” was not present to assist during the distribution.
“Sana matulungan kami na mabigyan kami ng relief dito,” a male resident said.
(We’re hoping that somebody can help us get relief packs.)
