Two arrested over overpriced face masks

Las Pinas City police arrested two persons after a complaint was filed against them for selling overpriced surgical face masks and alcohol Sunday afternoon.

Police identified the arrested suspects as Jovy Baldo, 27, of Las Pinas City and Mary Antonette Arce, 37, of Paranaque City.

According to the city police chief, Colonel Segundo Lagundi, the suspects were arrested at about 6:30 p.m. at the Manila Doctors Village, Barangay Almanza Uno, Las Pinas City during entrapment operation.

Lagundi said that members of the Intelligence Section conducted entrapment operation after receiving complaint that the suspects were selling overpriced face masks and assorted alcohol.

He said that with the implementation of national price freeze while the country is under the state of public health emergency due to spread of corona virus (COVID19), the arrested suspects took advantage to sell overpriced alcohols and surgical facemask.

Confiscated from the suspects were five boxes of disposable surgical face masks containing 50 pieces per box and being sold to P1,500; 16 pieces of 500 ml casino ethyl alcohol for a price of P150, and the 150ml casino ethyl alcohol was being sold at P50 each.

The suspects were now detained at the Las Pinas custodial facility and now facing charges of violation of Article 151 of Revised Penal Code and Proclamation 922 in relation to the consumer act.
