TACLOBAN City – The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) has recorded a significant drop of 24.6 percent in crime volume in the last 10 days since the implementation of community quarantine in Eastern Visayas.

From March 15-24, there were 204 incidents recorded compared to 269 incidents from March 5-14.

Eastern Visayas Police Regional Commander P/BGen. Bernabe Balba attributed the significant decline of incidents with the restricted movement of people due to the enhanced measures being implemented to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The provinces of Southern Leyte, Biliran, Samar, Eastern Samar, and Leyte are under general community quarantine while Ormoc City and Tacloban City are under restrictive community quarantine.

Meanwhile, as of March 26, PRO8 has already apprehended a total of 69 community quarantine violators all throughout the region.

Fourteen of which are persons under monitoring (PUMs) who were caught loitering or drinking liquor.
