The Diocese of San Carlos in Negros Occidental backed the call of a group of Filipino scientists for mass testing for coronavirus.

Bishop Gerardo Alminaza said they agree with Scientists Unite Against COVID that mass testing is crucial in containing the spread of the coronavirus as well as in healing those who are infected.

The Diocese of San Carlos then urged the government to order the FDA to expedite the processing and approval of the 125,000 test kits donated by China and South Korea so they can be used immediately to test more people
The government, the diocese said, should also disclose the exact number of operational specimen-processing laboratories (like RITM) for Covid-19, their exact locations, as well as daily capacity for tests.

It also urged the government to disclose the following: the standard length of time to test a person and for test results to be released; how many private hospitals in the country that have the capability to conduct laboratory analysis for Covid-19 test specimens; as well as its plan on how to expedite the testing process and increase the number of results processing laboratories.

The diocese also asked the government to determine if it can utilize the LGU health units to handle the testing, like what South Korea did.

As of Tuesday, the Philippines has recorded 552 confirmed coronavirus cases.
