The Commission on Human Rights wants to uphold the dignity of human rights victims by sharing their stories and demanding justice and accountability from their perpetrators.
This was what CHR Spokesperson Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia said in observance of the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims, which was held on March 24.
De Guia stressed that the right to full and complete truth regarding human rights violations is the key to providing justice, reparation, and honor for the dignity of the victims.
By demanding for truth and accountability, De Guia said people are paying tribute to the victims of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and torture.
“We can only fully honor their dignity and the immense suffering of their families who are left behind by ensuring that full justice is attained and necessary reparation is given,” she explained.
At the same time, the CHR is giving honor and lauding individuals who persistently defend the victims of human rights abuses and denounce these violations even if it means risking their lives.
“Their sacrifice and courage fuel the promotion and protection of the human rights of all, particularly the vulnerable ones,” she said.
