VIRAC, Catanduanes – In line with the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has declared a total lockdown in the jails in the municipalities of Virac and San Andres.

BJMP-Catanduanes Officer-in-Charge Provincial Administrator Jail Inspector Camilo Batuhan said that the implementation of total jail lockdown was pursuant to the order of the BJMP National Office.

“No in, No out” policy is strictly observed. As per the provincial director, they have suspended visiting hours to the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) until the order is lifted.

According to Batuhan, prior to the implementation of total lockdown, personnel of BJMP were already conducting preventive measures against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

He added that they were regularly conducting disinfection, using the disinfectants given by Rural Health Unit (RHU), inside the jail premises twice a day.

Batuhan assured that all detainees from both district jails remain in good health and none of them is showing any symptom of COVID-19.
