Pope Francis has appointed Father Moises Cuevas the auxiliary bishop of Zamboanga.
According to a Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) News post, Cuevas’ appointment was made public in Rome on Thursday (March 19).
As auxiliary bishop, Cuevas will assist Zamboanga Archbishop Romulo Dela Cruz.
Born in Batangas City, Cuevas took his philosophy studies at the Pastor Bonus Seminary in Zamboanga City and theology at the Regional Major Seminary in Davao City.
He was ordained a priest for the Zamboanga archdiocese on Dec. 6, 2000.
Since then, the bishop-elect has served as parish vicar of the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Zamboanga, rector of the sanctuary Nostra Signora del Pilar, and chancellor of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga.
He also served as administrator of the Pastoral Center and as parish priest of Santa Maria parish.
Cuevas has also been serving as director of the archdiocese’s Commission on the Clergy since 2017.
Upon his appointment, the 46-year-old bishop-elect had been serving as parish priest of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Zamboanga.
