There are over 80,000 registered senior citizens in Makati, the city government said.

The maintenance medicines are being delivered by motorcycle riders right to the doorsteps of seniors in the city.

This initiative of Mayor Abigail "Abby" Binay has been lauded by netizens, saying that they hope their local government units (LGUs) will follow the example of Makati.

"Salamat po, kahapon dineliver din nila ang gamot ko. Salamat, Mayora Abby at sa masisipag na delivery man ng ating mga barangay (Thank you for delivering my medicines yesterday. Thank you, Mayora Abby and to the hard-working delivery men of our barangay)," Facebook user Ghie Bejar said in a My Makati Facebook post.

Keeping senior citizens healthy is vital during these trying times as experts say they are the most vulnerable to COVID-19.

Binay urged the public not to go outside their houses, especially the seniors who are very susceptible to the disease.

"Please stay at home. This is to keep you safe and protect you from COVID-19," she said. "Also, please practice social distancing at all times to stop the spread of the disease."

Should anyone experience any COVID-19 symptoms, the Makati LGU said they may contact Hotline 168 or use the SOS of Makatizen App.

On Friday, the city government said it started delivering the 81,995 food packs for Makati City students and their families.
