Two barangay captains were reprimanded in Taguig City following complaints from residents on social media about their handling of their respective areas.

Complaints surfaced online from residents of Barangay Tanyag who said they were told to pay P50 to be allowed to leave their barangays to buy supplies outside the city. The city was put under lockdown by the mayor last Wednesday.

In a Facebook post of Bgy. Tanyag on Wednesday night, they said the payment was not for a gate pass but a clearance for residency for those who are working outside the city. They added that this will serve as proof that they are residents of the barangay, and they are to pay the amount of P50 in accordance with the local ordinance.

They said that because of the lockdown, residents are not allowed to leave the city and that the barangay does not issue a gate pass or clearance for them to buy groceries from a shopping mart in Parañaque City.

Due to this, the local government said it will now take over the enhanced community quarantine operations in the barangay until necessary.

In a statement given to reporters on Thursday, Mayor Lino Cayetano said that in relation to the incident in Bgy. Tanyag, he immediately reprimanded the barangay captain.

Cayetano also ordered the closure of all establishments within the area.

“Only one person per family will be allowed to leave their homes. Violators will be apprehended,” he said in the statement.

Meanwhile, the mayor also reprimanded the barangay captain of Bgy. Pinagsama for its failure to observe social distancing in the distribution of food packs.

The city said it will take over the distribution of goods in the barangay.
