CEBU CITY – The governor of Siquijor province has placed the province of Siquijor under community quarantine.
This was decided Wednesday, March 18, after the emergency meeting of Siquijor Governor Zaldy Villa with province officials at the provincial capitol in Siquijor, Siquijor.
Villa has also called on Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo to exempt Siquijor residents from the travel ban he earlier imposed in his province.
Villa asked his Negros Oriental to continue to allow daily trips to and from Dumaguete City to Siquijor because these constitute a vital link for food, goods and other commodities for his province.
According to the Rizalie Calibo, Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Siquijor manager, Villa did not like to impose a lockdown because it could destroy the socio- economic situation in the Island.
“Once the province locks down tourism, security and peace and order are affected. We are safe here. Siquijor is very easy to contain especially that we are a small island,” Villa said.
