The Party-list Coalition Foundation, Inc has started distributing personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontline medical workers assigned to various health centers and hospitals within the national capital region and other affected areas.
The Party-list Coalition headed by Deputy Speaker and 1Pacman Party-list Rep. Mikee Romero said party-list lawmakers have decided to pool resources and money to purchase at least P5 million worth of PPE gear.
The solons were able to discuss the process of collecting contributions and purchasing the needed supplies via online conferences.
The money collected was used to purchase 150,000 masks, 1,300 pairs of goggles, 40,000 pairs of gloves, and 1,300 ipieces of PPE.
“Because our hands are tied in passing significant legislative measures to combat COVID-19, we decided to do this instead. The whole idea is to unite everybody to defeat this deadly disease,” Romero said.
The Party-list Coalition has appointed Reps. Bernadette Herrera (BH Party-list); Sharon Garin (AAMBIS-OWA), and Angelica Natasha Co (BHW Party-list) to lead the PPE distribution operation.
Co said the remaining funds collected will be reserved for the purchase of testing kits as soon as they are available from suppliers.
