SM Prime Holdings Inc. announced that it will be closing its stores in Metro Manila starting March 16.

The announcement of the closure was reported by Reuters on Monday.

According to the post from Reuters, the decision to close stores aims “to promote social distancing” and “events and mass gatherings have been postponed in hotels, convention centers, trade halls and at the MOA arena.”

Meanwhile, supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, hardware, select restaurants that offer home delivery or takeout services will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The decision to close stores is in compliance with the order from the government urging malls and establishments to close shop while a community quarantine is being enforced in the whole of Metro Manila from March 15 to April 14.
