The Senate announced on Friday that its press office resumes operations on Monday.

The whole Senate building was closed for fumigation last Friday, and the Senate’s committee hearings last Thursday were cancelled because of the COVID-19 threat.

The closure of the Upper House was triggered by an announcement from Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian that a resource speaker at his committee public hearing last week confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19.

This prompted Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III to order a temporary closure of the Senate.

The Senate advisory stated that a skeletal force was assigned at the Senate press office to help media reporters and workers.

Like senators Gatchalian, Nancy Binay, and Franklin M. Drilon, media reporters and workers also went on self-quarantine or worked outside the Senate premises.
