Rumor mongers were warned by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto to stop spreading “chismis” or rumors amid the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The mayor reminded Pasigueños to observe proper washing and social distancing.
“Iwasan na ring makipag-tsismisan, at tignan ng maigi kung ang impormasyon natin ay mula sa mga lehitimong source (Avoid spreading rumors and check carefully if the information came from legitimate sources),” Sotto said.
As of Thursday, there are currently five Pasig City residents with COVID-19 after results for two more cases turned out to be positive, according to the mayor.
“So we have five in total now,” Sotto told the Manila Bulletin.
The city government has already conducted the contact tracing of those who had close contact with the patients.
“Our contact tracing has been successful so far,” Sotto said Thursday, adding that “all who have had close contact with the patients are now under quarantine.”
The local chief executive urged city residents to remain calm as he assured that the city government will continuously conduct disinfection measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
The mayor said he will convene an emergency meeting with department heads and other city officials Friday morning.
“To all Pasigueños, let’s stay calm and together amidst these uncertain times,” Sotto said.
