Mahatao town in Batanes adopts safety measures in fight vs COVID-19

BATANES – The local government of Mahatao here has adopted Resolution no. 20-22 adopting safety measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and other related developments within the locality.

Under the resolution, the local legislative council asked the mayor to organize a task force that will manage the issues regarding prevention of the disease.

Moreover, it instructed all barangay chairpersons to provide their constituents with salient information regarding the COVID-19 assisted by the rural health unit (RHU) and the police authorities.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office was tasked to help the RHU in supplying masks, gloves, goggles, and protective shoes since, according to the authority, the said issue is considered a health disaster.

The local health agency was also instructed to have a quarantine area for those who will be possibly affected by the coronavirus at Sitio Diura, and to conduct information dissemination drives.

Educational institutions within the locality was also bound to give proper care and sanitation to the learners and to report immediately any suspected case within the schools.

In addition, all activities involving large numbers of persons were also suspended or postponed to a later date. Or if these would have to push through, advisories were given out on adequate social distancing to avoid the possible transmission of the disease.

Business establishments, transportation operators, and the community was also reminded to abide by the Sanitation Code and the Health Department advisories while restaurants, stores, homestays, food peddlers, bakeries and other businesses which require food handling should provide free hand sanitizers to its customer.

This resolution was in support for the local steps of Batanes province to fight against the COVID-19 threat.
