To provide alternative education arrangements amid the threat of the coronavirus disease, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) is offering short special courses to capacitate teachers in online learning.

The UPOU, which maximizes online learning and distance education, offered on Thursday a solution to help universities and colleges offer their courses online.

UPOU developed a special set of five courses to capacitate teachers, administrators, and support staff in using open and distance e-learning (ODeL) as an alternative to classroom-based education.

These include Designing Learning in ODeL, Content Development for ODeL, Assessment of Learning in ODeL, Teaching and Learning with Modern ICTs, and Technologies in ODeL.

The courses will be available from March 10 to April 18 on model.upou.edu.ph.

UPOU said the completers of the courses will receive a digital certificate.

“All educational institutions [that] are resorting to e-learning may avail of UPOU’s massive open online courses (MOOCs) for free. The courses are also open to anyone who is interested to learn more about ODeL,” UPOU said.

For those interested, no admission requirement is necessary.
