The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) asked all authorized agent banks (AABs) on Tuesday to open during two Saturdays, March 28 and April 4, prior to the April 15 deadline for the filing of 2019 income tax returns.

In issuing Bank Bulletin No. 2020-02, BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay said AABs should also extend banking hours from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. starting April 1 to accommodate more tax filers.

The BIR chief said the deadline, like in the past, will not be extended and interest and surcharges will be imposed against late filers.

Revenue regional directors and district officers in Metro Manila and elsewhere requested taxpayers to file their returns early to avoid the confusion that normally occurs during the last minute-rush.

They said taxpayers can also avail of the various online facilities in filing and paying taxes which are easy and hassle-free.

They said the filing of returns via the electronic system has become popular as more and more taxpayers are using them.

The BIR raised 70 percent of its P2.1 trillion take last year through the automated filing and paying system.
