The COVID-19 phenomenon should bring Filipinos together as one nation, Senator Panfilo M. Lacson said Saturday, adding: “This is a top health priority, and government must invest heavily not only in prevention and cure by way of research, but also on containment.”

Lacson issued the statement as the Philippines has reported five positive cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) — three foreigners from China and two Filipinos. One Chinese patient died and the other two have recovered.

The latest COVID-19 patient, who was admitted to a Cardinal Santos Hospital due to severe pneumonia, is also known as to have hypertension and diabetes.

He is a 62-year-old man who was reported as having often visited a Muslim prayer room in Barangay Greenhills, San Juan City.

“Do we have enough testers to cover a decent number of our population, especially in the more vulnerable areas of the country? If no, the Department of Health (DOH) may be underreporting, albeit unintentionally,’’ Lacson said.
